Joyetech eGo AIO ECO Review

The Joyetech eGo AIO ECO is a simple all-in-one vaping system aimed at smokers looking to quit. It does a very good job of emulating the draw on a tobacco cigarette and it is optimized for high-nicotine or nicotine salt e-liquids to efficiently satisfy users’ nicotine cravings. So if you or someone you care about is trying to give up smoking, this is the kind of vaping device that can help a lot during that difficult process.

A Look at the Contents

The new eGo AIO ECO comes in a very small cardboard box, which should give you an idea of how small the device it contains really is (literally the size of a small pen). The vaporizer itself sits in a Styrofoam holder, and if you take that out you’ll notice another small box containing a micro-USB cable for charging, a spare coil-head and, tiny bag with o-rings and a user manual.

This is pretty much your standard starter kit, although I for one would have loved to see an extra glass tube included as well. One of the few flaws of the original Joyetech eGo AIO was that it had a non-removable glass tank, so if you cracked it by accident, you literally had to buy a new device. The new ECO model features a removable glass tube, but you only get one included in the kit. I guess it’s still an improvement, but the Chinese company could have added a spare just be sure, even if it meant bumping up the price by a dollar or so.

Design and Build Quality

Like its predecessor, the Joyetech AIO, the ECO is a very simple device. You basically have a 650 mAh battery connected to a 1.2 ml e-liquid tank. There is no complex menu to get used to, no power adjustment, not even adjustable airflow. You just fill the tank with juice, put the top cap back on and you’re ready to vape.

The battery portion of the device features a single button which you press when you want to vape, and a micro-USB port for charging. The connection is proprietary, so you won’t be able to use it with other atomizers, not that you’d have any reason to do that anyway.

The sample I received for this review was red and white, but there are a variety of color combinations for users to choose from.

The tank portion of the tank is actually the most interesting part of this device, if only because there’s a bit more going on. Starting at the top we have a black plastic top cap with a metallic drip tip encapsulated inside. The top cap features threading on the inside which connects directly to the long coil-head. That means you can’t use any other drip tips on this device.

Another thing that needs mentioning is that the top cap features two non-adjustable airflow slots. I personally see this as a con, as the draw may be considered a bit too tight for some users. It reproduces the draw on a tobacco cigarette very well, but if you prefer an airier mouth-to-lung vape, there’s no way to adjust the airflow.

The glass tube can easily be removed by simply yanking it from the thick o-ring at the top of the battery, the one that reads ‘Keep Calm and Vape On’. You’ll actually need to do this when replacing the coil-head, because that’s the only way you can actually get a good grip on it and unscrew it from the battery. The downside to this system is that you can only replace the coil-head when the tank is empty, otherwise all the juice left inside will spill. That wasn’t an issue with the original Joyetech eGo AIO, because of the Cubis-like design of the tank section.

The coils are definitely interesting-looking. To me, they look a lot like the cartomizers I used on cigalikes, back when they were literally the only electronic cigarettes available. The coil itself and the wicking take up maybe a third of the actual coil-head, with the rest being taken up by the air-channels through which the air travels through from the airflow slots on the top cap all the way to the coil and exiting through the main shaft and into the user’s mouth.

Finally, like the old eGo AIO, the ECO version features colored LED lights for the tank section. All you have to do is keep the fire button pressed for about five seconds while the device is turned off to select the color you like. You can press through the available options by clicking the fire button and make your selection by not pressing the button for five seconds. To turn the battery back on, press the fire button five times.

Battery Life and Performance

You’re probably wondering what the ECO stands for. Well, it’s apparently a new technology that increases battery life, allowing users to get up to 350 puffs on a fully charged battery. That’s quite a bold claim, but Joyetech does mention that it is only based on their testing with 2-3 second-long puffs. Those are pretty short puffs for such a restrictive MTL vaping device, so you probably aren’t going to get 350 puffs, if you take longer puffs.

This new ECO technology is definitely an interesting marketing strategy, but I for one prefer the 1500 mAh of the old eGo AIO or even the newer Joyetech Exceed D19. I don’t care how efficient battery use is on this device, it’s still a 650 mAh battery. That’s less than half the capacity of the two previously released Joyetech MTL devices.

On the other hand, the Joyetech eGo AIO ECO is considerably slimmer and slicker than the old AIO, so if you’re willing to sacrifice battery life for portability and stealth, than the ECO is probably your best option.

In terms of performance, the new ECO does what it is supposed to. I was a bit surprised to see a device intended for mouth-to-lung vaping using sub-ohm coil-heads rated at 0.5Ω, but they somehow work great for this style of vaping. Thanks to the large wicking holes on the coil-heads you never have to fear dry hits, at least as long as there’s still juice in your tank, and unlike the old AIO coil-heads, these newer ones are less prone to spitback.

As I mentioned in the beginning of this review, the draw on the ECO is very much like that on a real tobacco cigarette, which is bound to appeal to smokers looking for a close alternative. That said, it is much too restrictive for lung-inhale fan like myself, and the fact that you can’t adjust the airflow at all is kind of a con in my book. You could adjust the airflow on both the old AIO and the Exceed D19, so I have no idea why Joyetech decided to go with fixed airflow this time around.

Conclusion

I suspect the Joyetech eGo AIO ECO will be a big hit with beginner vapers and smokers looking to quit, as it replicates the cigarette draw very well, but comparing it to the old AIO, I personally don’t see it as a better device. Yes, the newer coil-heads definitely seem like an improvement, but other than that, I think the older device was better.

Battery capacity has been decreased by more than half, and I for one don’t think the new ECO technology can compensate for that, the airflow is no longer adjustable, and changing the coil-head requires you to empty the tank section first.

If you’re looking for a vaping device that faithfully recreates the draw on a real cigarette, than the ECO will definitely not disappoint, but if you prefer a more versatile all-in-one vaping system and better battery life, I think you’re better off with the original eGo AIO.

Our friends at Vape Sourcing were kind enough to send us a sample of the Joyetech eGo AIO ECO for review. They currently have it available for the special price of $13.90.

Pros
  • slick design
  • cigarette-like draw
  • ECO technology
  • very affordable
Cons
  • 650 mAh battery
  • non-adjustable airflow
  • very tight draw (subjective)

Your review of the ego eco is rather accurate. However, I have experienced spitback over %90 of the time. Although it is my first vape device it is difficult for me to say it is anything like a cig. It does hit like one if you don’t mind actually tasting your juice on your lips and tongue. I had to cover the mouthpiece with a paper towel to avoid eating more juice than I actually vape.
The mouthpiece is short on threading, and is easily cross threaded.
The instructions which are printed in microsized type, claim the airflow is adjustable. Only a drill bit could increase airflow. I guess the jury was on a prolonged lunch, and didn’t get the updated design details.

First, don’t rip the glass off…just gently turn it so it slips off or you’ll break it. You can buy extra glass for cheap.. Secondly, this ECO has a superman battery…lasted more than two days with frequent vaping, I couldn’t believe how long it lasts. And the 1.2 ml lasts a long time too…some kind of new technology here making everything more efficient. Oh and lastly, the drip tip is simply part of the top piece that screws into the atty. (I don’t see it as “encapsulated” in anything.) It’s just all one piece so you can’t use other drip tips, which is fine. I’m a veteran vaper that loves this little vaporizer! Thanks for your review.

Forgot to say…you can buy a different drip tip part that you can adjust the air on. The drip tip that comes already on the ECO gives a pretty open draw, so if you want a more restrictive draw, just get the other drip tip that’s available.

I assume that the way you can tell it’s fully charged is that the red light goes out? And that light is super faint and hard to see sometimes. The ONLY drawback. I love this little Mod.

Forget about buying this. I will say when it works properly it rocks, however, that is not too often. Out of every box of coils only 2 work properly. The rest taste like burnt cotton from the start. I’ve been vaping for quite a few years now and know about priming the coils etc. Love the compact design but the quality of their coils suck.

This little beauty has helped me quit smoking when nothing else had. Coils are the biggest problem. In 3 months I have more invested in replacement coils than I do in the 2 ECOS I own. Dry, harsh hits are too frequent and I’m now in the market for a new pen due to the coils

This is a pretty cool little ecig.I didn’t see the OP mention the tech of this ecig.It does come with a sub ohm atomizer, but the voltage is limited to 1.85 volts. That is how the 650mah battery lasts so long.It is using less than 7 watts. This is comparable to the old ego ecigs.I am using a juice that is twice the strength of the juice that I use in my Ego One sub ohm.The same strength I used to use in my old ego-c ecig.I haven’t had any issues yet.Time will tell.

I’d give it no stars if I could. I moved to this on a recommendation from a vape store from a Logic Pro as I wanted to move away from expensive pods. The battery in the AIO doesn’t last anywhere near as long as the Logic Pro, though it is rated at the same 650mha. I have to fill this about 3 times more than switching pods on the logic pro as you have to protect the intakes on the coils or otherwise vape with the device pointing downwards, as it’s too easy to expose the intakes to air if you get to less the 50% of liquid. After about 15 draws on this device the mouthpiece becomes warm. With regard to filling it, most liquid bottles don’t easily fit the gap between the glass and the coil. The funky (multi-colored) lights are useless in the daytime. All in all this is a TERRIBLE device and I wish I hadn’t wasted my money on it and the spare coils.

Love the size and portability of this vape. I am trying to quit smoking and I like the draw on this one however, I will probably never use it again after I use up the two remaining coils I have left. Those should last me, oh, about 6 more days total. The coils burn up within about 3 days or so of super moderate use. I’ve spent exponentially more on coils in 2 months of having this than I paid for the device and 3 bottles of ejuice specifically for it. Dont waste your money, folks.

Very disappointed in this product. I rarely use this so the battery life was great at first. Now, a little i’ve a month since purchase , i am unable to get it to charge. I have purchased 2 joyetech products and been disappointed in both. i will not purchase from them again.

Been using the AIO for 4 years. The quality of the product has gone in the toilet. I used to get many months, sometimes years out of a single unit, now I seldom go much more than a month before they fail. The product is no longer reliable. Will no longer be using any joyetech products.
