GeekVape got a lot of attention last year, when it launched its original Aegis mod. It was one of the first shockproof, waterproof and dustproof vape mods ever created, and it actually had a very attractive design as well, so people couldn’t stop speaking about it. This year, the Chinese manufacturer launched the dual battery version, called the Aegis Legend. It’s apparently been in the works for over a year and is even more durable than the first version. Let’s check it out:

A Look at the Contents

The GeekVape Aegis Legend mod comes in a rectangular cardboard box with a picture of the device on the front, as well as two smaller ones on the sides of the box, and a list of technical features, including IP67 water and dust resistance, and high shock resistance, on the back. You’ll also find the company information and a scratch and check authenticity sticker.

Inside the box, we have the dual-battery Aegis Legend mod, as well as a smaller box containing a micro-USB cable for charging and firmware upgrading, and a plastic bag with some spare screws and a silicone cover for the mod’s micro-USB port. At the bottom of the box you will also find a user manual and a small envelope containing the warranty and a warning card.

Design and Build Quality

The GeekVape Aegis Legend follows the same design line as the original Aegis, with the only notable exception being the battery door. Otherwise, this is just a slightly larger version of the GeekVape Aegis, which is now powered by a two 18650 batteries instead of one 26650 battery.

The new Aegis Legend measures 90.5mm x 58.5mm x 30.6mm. It’s not the most compact dual-battery mod on the market, that’s for sure, but that’s now what the designers were going for either. This is a rugged, sturdy device designed to work in extreme conditions, so if you’re looking for something slick and stylish, you may be a bit disappointed by it.

That’s not to say that the Aegis Legend is an ugly vape mod. I for one like the way it looks, although I still prefer the original a bit better. Despite its size, it feels great in the hand, the trigger-like fire button is easy to press both with the thumb and index finger, and it features the same quality materials as the first entry in the series, including genuine stitched leather.

One of the most interesting things about the new GeekVape Aegis Legend is that it is built out of several durable materials. The top plate is stainless steel powdered metal, the buttons and most of the frame of the mod id made of zinc die cast alloys, the decorative metallic plate around the leather inserts is die-cast aluminum, the latch on the battery door is apparently carbon steel, and most of the device is coated in LSR silicone to make it more resistant to shocks. The front panel covering the display is made of tough Plexiglas.

There’s no denying that the Aegis Legend sounds tough, but don’t trick yourself into thinking that this is an indestructible vape mod. It can take some punishment and till function, but you can definitely still break it. GeekVape make it very clear on their website that the Aegis Legend is shockproof only when dropped from heights of up to one meter. Any higher than that and you risk damaging the batteries inside or the mod itself. I actually saw a video of someone dropping this from shoulder height and breaking the latch on the battery door, which would have never happened on the first GeekVape Aegis, because it had that vault-like metal door instead.

However, the main qualities of this device are its water-resistant and dustproof capabilities. Being able to wash this mod under running water, or dropping it in water without any consequences is huge deal, as is using it in a dusty environment. Shockproof sounds impressive, but what are you going to do to it really? Bang it with a hammer, drive over it with a car, or drop it from a tall building? You could run those kinds of tests, but in real life use, having it withstand minor drops is probably good enough.

The GeekVape Aegis Legend features a centered 510 connection, which I would really love to see on all mods moving forward, and because this mod has quite some girth, atomizers up to 30mm in diameter can fit with no overhang. Also on the top, near the spring-loaded, gold-plated connection, you can see a rubber cap that conceals the micro-USB port. This can be a bit tougher to remove, but do try not to yank it out too hard, as you can break it off completely.

The fire button is very similar to that of the original Aegis mod, and it’s very easy to press both with the thumb and the index finger. The ‘-‘ and ‘+’ buttons look like one rocker-type knob, but there are actually two different switches on the circuit board. The display is rectangular and despite being color, it’s not particularly impressive, at least when compared to some of the gorgeous displays we’ve seen lately, like that of the Modefined Draco or the Vaporesso Polar. It’s ok, but definitely not something to write home about. The Plexiglas cover comes with a thin foil protection , and I would strongly suggest you leave it on for as long as possible, as the Plexiglass scratches very easily and is a fingerprint magnet.

On the opposite side of the front panel we have genuine leather that looks and feels very high-quality. The sample I received for this review had a snake-skin pattern and texture to it, but as the on the original GeekVape Aegis, you can find it in different variants.

The battery door is basically the only thing that is radically different than the one of the original GeekVape Aegis. It’s a hinged door that automatically springs up as soon as you pull on the metal latch located on the door. It feels very sturdy and actually comes with a thick silicone gasket on the inside, which insulates the battery compartment to make sure that water doesn’t get in. However, it also makes it harder to close the battery door with batteries inside the mod. Simply pressing on the door and hoping for that little metals latch to get into a little notch on the mod almost never works. Instead you have to also pull on the metal knob on the outside of the battery door while pushing down on it, and then press it folder hoping that the latch goes into that notch. It can be frustrating, and frankly I prefer the old-fashioned threaded battery door of the original Aegis.

Most of the mod is coated in black silicone to help it handle drops better, but that silicone also attracts a lot of dust and lint, so it can get pretty dirty after a while. Luckily, you can just wash it under running water and it’ll be as good as new.

Menu System and Navigation

The Aegis Legend is powered by the same AS Chip we recently saw on the newer GeekVape Nova mod, so it essentially has the exact same menu and navigation. You just click the fire button three times to go into the main menu, then use the ‘-‘ and ‘+’ buttons to browse through the different available operating modes. A short click on the fire button while a mode is highlighted in the menu will allow you to highlight the adjustable subparameters for that mode, and adjust them with the ‘-‘ and ‘+’ buttons.

There is not point in going through all the different settings, since they are exactly the same as on the Nova mod, so if you ant to know more about the Aegis Legend Menu, just check out my review of the Nova.

One thing I want to mention that I forgot to mention in my review of the Nova is that pressing the ‘-‘ and ‘+’ buttons at the same time while one of the operating modes is highlighted with three quick presses of the fire button will change the color of the display. There are three color combinations to choose from, tow of which are actually very similar. It doesn’t affect the performance of the mod at all, but it’s an extra customization option you may want to try.

Battery Life and Performance

The GeekVape Aegis Legend is only compatible with two 18650 batteries, preferably high discharge ones, like the Sony VTC5A. You may have trouble getting rewrapped batteries to fit in the battery compartments, because they are extremely tight, for some reason. I manager to get two rewrapped batteries in there, but I thn had problems removing them, because of how tight the compartments were. I managed to do it, but just to be sure, if you feel you have to force the batteries in, better use a different set.

The Aegis Legend has been out for a few months now, and even though I’ve only had mine for a couple of weeks, I had read some complaints about its battery life a while ago. basically, people said that the batteries didn’t last as long as they did on other vape mods, so I was really curious to see if I noticed the same thing. Honestly, I didn’t, but that may be thanks to a firmware upgrade that came pre-installed on it. So the original lots may have suffered from battery life issues, but these newer ones certainly do not.

I generally mention that dual-18650 mods these days should be compatible with 20700 batteries as well, for longer battery life, but in this particular case we’re talking about a pretty bulky device, and bigger battery compartments would only have made it bulkier. So as far as the Aegis Legend is concerned, dual 18650-only was probably the right call.

Like most other advanced mods these days, the GeekVape Aegis Legend features fast charging as well as balanced charging, and can also be used while it is charging, although the location of the micro-USB port right next to the 510 connection might make vaping on a short atomizer a bit awkward while the mod is charging.

Regarding performance, I already knew what to expect from my review of the GeekVape Nova, since both vape mods share the same exact chip. The Aegis Legend fires instantly and the power ramp up is just as fast and as impressive as on the Nova. I’ve mostly been using it in Power Mode and Custom Curves mode, and so far I really have nothing to complain about. The buttons work great, the mod is very responsive and so far I’ve encountered no unusual errors.

Does this thing really hit 200W as advertised by the manufacturer? I really could not tell you for sure, as I don’t have the proper gear to test it, and I wouldn’t dream of vaping at that kind of wattage, so I can’t tell you what it feels like. However, dual 18650 mods are indeed capable of reaching 200W in certain conditions, and most of them are much more consistent in that regard than they used to be a couple of years ago.

Conclusion

The GeekVape Aegis Legend is without a doubt a lot more durable than your average regulated vape mod. It can handle water, dust and even some shocks without any issues, but it definitely isn’t indestructible, so don’t expect it to handle anything you throw at it. It also has better battery life and a much higher power output than the original Aegis mod, thanks to the two 18650 batteries powering it. That said, there are still some things that could be improved, like the battery door, which can be pretty frustrating sometimes, and the small, dull display.

If you’re looking for a rugged vape mod that can take some punishment, the Aegis Legend is one of the best options available on the market today. However, if you don’t care too much about the upgrade in battery life and power output, I personally think that the original GeekVape Aegis was slightly better.

The GeekVape Aegis Legend was sent to me for the purpose of this review by Sourcemore. They currently have it in stock for $53.20. Considering the work and materials that went into making this device, that’s not bad at all!

Do not buy this mod! Theres a big chance you will get one that after a few days, will refuse to turn on. Crappy build. They need to back to the drawing board on this good for nothing but a paperweight mod… Tons of issues look it up happened to me, happened to thousands… Geekvape don’t off replacements.

I’m not sure what the reviewer had experienced with his Legend, but I definitely haven’t been experiencing the same with mine. I’ve been using my Aegis Legend now for about 4 months without any issues. Build seems solid and battery life seems great. Too bad that Aegis doesn’t’t offer replacements but so far mine has held up beautifully, so I haven’t had to contact Aegis at all. I have 4 different Mods that I switch off between depending on where I’m going or what I’m doing, but I use my Legend about 90% of the time which means I’ve put it through quite a bit of use over the last 4 months.
I’m not sure what else I can say other that’s been a pleasure owning the Aegis Legend. I don’t have any experience with the original single battery one that this mod replaced, but if I had a choice I would still have gone with this one over the original because of increased battery life and wattage.
I Hope my review has been helpful and I’d hate to see someone not purchase one of these based on the other review. I usually check out reviews on youtube before buying a new device and all the reviewers had nothing but good things to say regarding this mod. I work in construction so buying a really durable mod was very important to me. It also ramps up really quickly so vaping it has been great.

        DON”T BUT THIS MOD!!!!!!!
I Bought 2 200W mods thinking I could charge one and Vape with one.
Great start 5×5, FAIL ending DOA! Purposely creating a FAIL end point in their firmware. If the “Support” would find a solution to the battery LOW failure, this would be the best ever!
Made to FAIL! DON’T BUY THIS MOD!!!!!

I just purchased the aegis legend mod and the wotofo profile rda as a Christmas gift for myself. The day after I got mine, I saw there was another firmware update from 1.1 to 1.2 2018 710. So, I updated immediately. The update went perfectly. I disconnected my aegis legend, put the profile rda back on and the batteries back in and pressed the + and -_buttons together to check the firmware version and NOTHING!!! I clicked the fire button 5 times, NOTHING. It wouldn’t turn on!!! Now, I’ve had this device for barely 24 hours, and now it’s a paperweight? I couldn’t leave it at that. I started looking online and found 2 “fixes” if you will. 1st one is to gently remove the gold plate from the battery door itself. (there are no wires under it or anything. It’s just a sticker.) Next set the sticker face down on your batteries, just like it would be if the battery door was closed. Next place a couple of squares of tissue on top of the gold connector sticker and close the battery door. It may take a few tries with different amounts of tissue, but it should eventually work. YouTube has a video of it. That wasn’t my problem so I didn’t even try it. I read that some USB 3.0 ports can’t update the aegis legend correctly. I tried going back to the software it had on it, version 1.1.Same thing, NOTHING! I moved my USB cable to a USB port that is by itself on my laptop. I ran the new 1.2 firmware update again. This time it worked, and my legend is performing better than ever. I also read where some people were having the same issue after they took the batteries out to charge. If they played with them enough, the mod would finally turn on. On a final note, make sure that you TAKE OUT THE BATTERIES, take your tank off, and PRESS AND HOLD THE + BUTTON WHEN YOU CONNECT TO YOUR COMPUTER. After you connect the legend to your computer, you can let off the + key. This is super important or your computer may not read the device, and even if it does, your legend might not be able to take the firmware update. So make sure you HOLD DOWN THE + KEY ON THE AEGIS LEGEND WHILE PlUGGING IN THE USB CORD TO YOUR COMPUTER!!! Sorry about the all caps there, but that is super important. Well, I really hope this information can help some people out there who are dealing with their Aegis Legend mod not powering on.

Save your money. DO NOT BUY THIS MOD!
After only 1 month of use I get the dreaded error message “Battery Low Protection”. The batteries were at about 50% when this error happened.
It gets stuck in this protection mode and is basically junk now.
I’ve tried every fix I could find online for this error and no luck getting it to work correctly again.
It’s garbage. Buy a different mod.
Don’t believe me then look up all the complaints online about the Battery Low Protection error. It’s the kiss of death for this mod.

  • Nattishia says:

Geekvape, could you please check your inbox for my email I sent to you regarding one of your mods please? I’ve sent several and haven’t had any reply except that someone would get back to me. Could you please check it again?
    Thanks a million!

I have had no problems at all with my mod. It always fires up for me. I am sorry to hear about the problems that some have had with them. This is my 5th e-cig I have owned and my very favorite one so far.

I have purchased two of these mods in the past 7 months. Both had the same issues with the “Battery Low Protection” The upgrade went fine but my newest mod of only two weeks is now showing nothing in the right battery chamber when looking at the display. Fully charged batteries and it is not reading it for some reason. The battery appeared to be draining before I installed upgrade. It seemed to be OK for two days and then today same thing and now it is a pretty paperweight, just like other one. No more Geek Vape Legends for me.

Put it to charge over night just like any other night and the liquid Just flushed out all over the mod the next morning the batteries showed 1 full and 1 empty
Turned it off cleaned it did everything but the mod never turned on again
The worst is the company costumer care or should I say costumer don’t care who just sent me this auto default emails where they washing their hands off of you and being really careless about you and that’s after 3 months and 2 weeks
What a joke of a company
Will never buy their products again

Best, toughest mod ever. Drop mine daily from a foot to eight feet off ground. Still works. Been rained on, left in the sun, frozen and best of all, ran over by a garbage truck. Brushed it off, turned it back on after changing glass, worked for another year! These are bad ass mods. Not for pussies that want to stick it in the pocket of their skinny jeans. This mod is for real men in real life with hard jobs that need a mod as tough as them. Will replace when time comes with another!!! Julle on sale sissies.!!!

Hey Geekvape, you and your employees suck. You have successfully created one of the worst, most unreliable money grabs of the decade. Despite hoards of loyal customers, you still turn your back to them and refuse to help with their issues. You deserve every one star you get and more; if you might actually respond to our pleas for help… that would be awesome.

Got this mod second hand 3 months ago and it’s durable as well as reliable. Had no issues with the mod itself and has survived a lot of rain showers. Only little thing is the charging port cover comes off very easily.
