Following the massive and well-deserved success of the original Vinci pod mod, VooPoo have been busy trying to expand the Vinci brand. We now have the Vinci X, an external battery version of the original device, as well as the Vinci Air, a simpler, cheaper and more compact variation that still packs most of the features that made the original Vinci so great. Let’s check it out:

A Look at the Contents

The new Vinci Air pod system comes in the same style packaging as the other devices in the fast-growing Vinci family – a small cardboard box featuring a small picture of the device and some pictograms of its main characteristics on the front, and a list of contents, the usual nicotine warnings, manufacturer information and a scratch-and-check authenticity sticker on the back.

When you first open the box you will find an informative card that shows you how the Vinci’s clever 180-degree dual airflow system works. If you’ve tried any of the other device in the series you probably already know all about it already, but it’s nice that they include the card for new users. The box also contains the Vince Air pod system, two different coil-heads, a micro-USB cable for charging, and a user manual.

Design and Build Quality

The original VooPoo Vinci was a fantastic vaping device, but if you really wanted to to get picky, you could make an argument that its size and square shape made it harder to carry around than a compact pod system. Well, VooPoo fixed that with the Vinci Air, which, while maintaining that classic Vinci look, it’s a lot sleeker and lighter than the other devices in the series.

The Vinci Air measures 101mm x 27mm x 18 mm, is made primarily of zinc alloy and technically comes only in gunmetal, but with various decorative panels. For example, the sample I received for review had an iridescent panel, but you can also get it in classic red or carbon fiber imitation.

While it undoubtedly looks like a VooPoo Vinci device, the new Air is different. The first things you’re going to notice about is how compact and light it is compare to the original Vinci and the Vinci X. If you loved the features and performance of those two previous models, but found them too large or cumbersome to carry around, you are going to love the Vinci Air. It’s sleek, compact, super light, and has all the bells and whistles that make Vinci products so great!

Then you’ll notice some discreet aesthetic changes as well. The VooPoo Vinci Air has that same style fire button as the other Vinci mods I’ve tested, the same style of refillable pods, but if you pay closer attention, you’ll notice some subtle changes as well. For example, the + and – buttons have been moved to the side of the device, the display is much smaller as well as black&white this time around, and the mods are rectangular, as opposed to square. Keep in mind that the Air is considerably cheaper than the other Vinci pod mods, so this isn’t a regression at all, just a more compact and more affordable alternative.

One of my favorite features of Vinci pod mods is the dual airflow, which you can interchange by rotating the pods 180 degrees and putting them back on the mod. Luckily, VooPoo implemented that system on the Vinci Air, and it works just as well, if not better than before. One side has three large air holes for a restrictive direct lung hit, while the other has a small hole, for a loose mouth-to-lung hit. It’s not the most advanced airflow control system, but it is surprisingly efficient.

The fire button is the same as on the other Vinci pod mods, the + and – toggle button on the side is clicky and easy to use, and the display, while not the most impressive I’ve seen, still manages to offer plenty of information. Not as much as the original Vinci, but still, it has a battery indicator, wattage, resistance and even a puff counter.

The pods of the VooPoo Vinci Air are flatter than those of the Vinci and Vinci X, but other than that they are very, very similar. They take the same PnP (plug ‘n play) coil-heads we’ve seen on the VooPoo Find S Trio, so all you have to do is pop one out f its blister pack and press it into the pod through the bottom. Then fill it up with e-liquid, let it soak up for a few minutes, and you’re good to go.

The kit comes with two types of coil-heads, a 1.0Ω MTL coil-head, and an 0.6Ω mesh coil-head for direct lung vaping. They both work great, from my experience, and whichever you like more will likely depend on your style of vaping.

All in all, I would say that the VooPoo Vinci Air pod system retains the same excellent build quality of the Vinci line, but in a sleeker, more pocket-friendly design.

Battery Life and Performance

The Vinci Air is considerably shorter and slimmer than the Vinci and Vinci X pod mods, so it makes sense that it feature a smaller battery capacity. Still, for it’s size, the 900mAh capacity is more than decent, in my opinion, blowing pod systems like the new Asmodus Pyke, and even the popular Renova Zero out of the water.

Even though the Vinci Air features the old micro-USB charging port, it does have 1A fast charging, which means that you can charge it from empty to full in little over 30 minutes. And if that’s still too long, you can also use it as passthrough, while it is charging. It’s not the safest way to vape, but I will be the first to admit that it has saved me more than once.

Performance-wise, the Vinci Air has a reputation to live up to. The Vinci name has already become very popular in a rather short period of time, and it would be a shame if the series started going downhill. Luckily, that’s not the case, as the Air is a great device, fully worthy of the Vinci name.

The VooPoo Vinci Air has a max power output of 30W, 10 watts less than the original Vinci, but it’s enough to get the best out of the included coil-heads. The pods also hold 4ml of e-liquid, 1.5ml less than original Vinci pods, but still plenty in my opinion. Finally, the screen is inferior to the color one we’ve seen on other Vinci devices. But other than these small cons, the Air is every bit as great as the other Vinci in VooPoo’s lineup.

The Gene Chip technology insures that the battery is activated instantly when you press the fire button, the flavor (out of both coils) is fantastic, and battery life is about as good as you can get from a pod system. Plus, it comes with most of the high-tech features of the original Vinci as well.

Every time you plug in a new coil-head and attach the pod to the mod, it will read the resistance and set the power output to a conservative level, to make sure you don’t accidentally apply too much power and ruin the cotton wicking inside the coil-head. This is a nice safety feature for people who didn’t bother learning Ohm’s Law, or for complete beginners.

One feature we didn’t see on the Vinci X but that’s making a comeback on the Air is the dual activation. You can press the fire button to activate the battery manually, but you can also use the Vinci Air as a regular pod system, by simply drawing on the mouthpiece. Like the original Vinci, it has a built-in draw-activated switch, but if you don’t like it, you can disable it by pressing the fire button three times in rapid succession.

You also have useful button combinations, like fire button and + button to lock/unlock all the buttons, or fire button and – to clear the puff counter.

And last but not least, the dual airflow system works great, allowing users to switch between a restrictive direct lung hit and a loose MTL hit on the fly. Just turn the pod 180 degrees, pop it back on the mod and you’re ready to vape. It’s simple, intuitive and effective, I just love it. I will point out that you can get a more restrictive mouth-to-lung hit by keeping your thumb over the airflow slots when you vape, so you can get different vaping experiences.

Conclusion

The Vinci family is growing rapidly, but so far there doesn’t seem to be a dip in quality. As the latest member of the Vinci line, the VooPoo Vinci Air is a great addition. It has most of the features that made the previous Vincis great, but also a lighter, more compact body that’s easy to carry around and hold in the hand. It’s a next-level pod system, and I love using it!
