Joyetech eGo AIO 2 (10th Anniversary) Review

Joyetech is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and it’s only fitting that they do so with a special edition eGo AIO. After all, the eGo electronic cigarettes has played a crucial part in the company’s success in this very competitive industry, especially in its early days. Even today, the eGo brand carries a lot of weight in the vaping community, and the AIO is still considered by many the best device for smokers looking to give vaping a try. Let’s have a look at the eGo AIO 2/10th Anniversary Edition:

A Look at the Contents

The Joyetech eGo AIO 10th Anniversary Edition comes in a small black box with a colorful wrapper featuring a picture of the all-in-one vape pen on the front, and a list of contents, as well company information on the back. Interestingly, this new eGo AIO is apparently designed in Switzerland, but built in China.

Inside the box, we have the new vape pen sitting snug in a Styrofoam holder next to a smaller box, which contains a micro-USB cable for charging, a spare acrylic 510 drip-tip, and two 0.6Ω stainless steel coils. You will also find a user manual, a warranty card and a warning card, at the bottom of the box.

Design and Build Quality

Like the original eGo AIO, the 10th Anniversary Edition measures 119mm in lengths and 19mm in diameter, and retains pretty much the same general design – a non-removable cup-shaped tank placed over a 1500mAh battery, both sealed in a metal tube. Apart from the way that the windows to the glass tank are shaped, some beveling at the bottom of the vape pen and the abstract patterns used as decoration, the new AIO is actually very similar to the first one.

Even the drip tip that comes pre-installed features the same swirl on the inside as that of the original Joyetech eGo AIO, which is supposed to prevent spit-back.  the top cap acts as an airflow control ring, but you really have to consult the manual to figure out how it works. Essentially, when the dot at the base of the drip tip aligns with the arrow on the top airflow control ring, the slots are wide open, offering you the airiest vape possible. Then, as you turn the airflow control ring clockwise or counterclockwise, you restrict the airflow. But turn it too much and it becomes airy again, so it definitely takes some getting used to. I would have loved to see some clear markings showing the airflow control range on the top cap, to be honest.

As with the original AIO, the BF (bottom-feeding) coil-heads included in this kit screw on to the top cap, but before you do that, I suggest priming the coil-heads by dropping some e-liquid inside that little hole in the center. Then, fill the cup-like tank up to the MAX line and screw on the top cap. Keep in mind that while that MAX line is perfectly visible on the white eGo AIO I received for this review, it is almost impossible to see on the black variant, which was actually a problem with the original AIO as well. It’s kind of mind-blowing seeing that Joyetech still hasn’t solved this simple issue.

The eGo AIO 2/10th Anniversary Edition features a child-proof top cap, which requires the user to apply pressure every time they need to screw it on or off the device, otherwise you will only be turning the airflow ring endlessly. You can replace the drip-tip with the clear acrylic one included in the box, if you don’t like the swirl of the pre-installed one, although I for one have had no problems with it so far.

To turn the Joyetech eGo AIO 10th Anniversary edition on and off, all you have to do is press the fire button five times. One of the coolest features of this device is the LED light that turns on inside the tank every time you push the fire button. You can actually change the color of the LED by keeping the fire button pressed for about 3 seconds, while the device is turned off. The light will turn on, and you can toggle through all the available colors by pressing the fire button. Once you decide on a color, just let the light turn off on its own, and you turn on the device again, the LED will light up in the selected color.

On the bottom of the vape pen, we have a small vent hole, just in case something goes wrong and the battery needs to vent. That’s always a good thing, but I actually have a problem with the beveling of the base. It may look slick, but it actually makes the device more unstable when placed upright, and that’s a small con in my opinion.

All in all, with the exception with some minor design changes, the eGo AIO 10th Anniversary Edition is very similar to the very popular vape pen Joyetech launched 2 years ago.

Battery Life and Performance

Like its predecessor, the eGo AIO 10th Anniversary Edition features a 1500mAh battery, which, while not very impressive compared to most advanced vape mods, actually puts popular pod systems like the Suorin Air or Smoant S8 to shame. Beginners could actually get a full day of vaping on a full charge, although people like me, who are abusing it almost constantly will probably need to recharge it after around 6-7 hours, which is not too bad.

Luckily, the AIO vape pen can be used as a passthrough device, while charging. Just hook it up to a power source using the included micro-USB cable, and you can still vape on it while it is charging.

Regarding performance, I for one have noticed no major differences between the original Joyetech AIO and this new 10th Anniversary Edition. They both used the same BF stainless steel coil-heads, have the exact same power output, and the top airflow controls are very similar as well. So if you’ve had a chance to use the original eGo AIO and are looking for something similar in a more stylish package, why not give the 10th Anniversary Edition a try.

One major improvement I noticed – although I don’t know if this has to do with the device or the coil-heads – is that those annoying spit-back issues seem to be completely gone. Even after I refill the tank or just leave the device unused for several hours, I no longer hear any gurgling and those hot droplets of hot juice don’t find their way into my mouth. So whatever Joyetech did, it worked, because that was one annoying issue that put a lot of users off.

I am not a big fan of mouth-to-lung vaping, not anymore anyway, so I’ve been testing the device with the airflow wide-open, but if you prefer a tight, cigarette-like draw, you can definitely fine tune the restriction to your preference. Also, I’ve been using a DIY e-liquid with a 70VG/30PG ratio and a bit of sweetener, and the coil-heads have been holding out pretty well. I’ve using the same one for over a week now, and I didn’t notice a burnt taste.

If you’re familiar with the cup-like tank inspired by the Joyetech Cubis, you already know that it is virtually leak-proof, so you don’t have to worry about wasting e-liquid, unless you fill it up past the MAX line.

Conclusion

I was really curious to see how Joyetech had improved on one of the best and most popular all-in-one vaping devices in history, but it turns out that the eGo AIO 10th Anniversary Edition is nothing more than a face-lift. It’s essentially the same device – same principle, same coil-heads, same battery life – in a slightly redesigned shell. It’s still a great device for beginners, but I just expected something more.

The Joyetech eGo AIO was sent to me for the purpose of this review by Vapesourcing. They currently have in stock for just $23.40, which is a really decent price for an entry-level device that’s tried and true.

Pros
  • slick design
  • good battery life
  • light and portable
  • good performance
Cons
  • no improvements over the original
